V.C Andrews Is A Genius- Author Crush

V.C Andrews Author Photo Source- Google Until her departure from this world, in 1986 V.C Andrews was a renowned author. V.C Andrews left behind a legacy that cannot be forgotten. Her first book flowers in the attic was published in the year 1979 and ever since then she has been a blessing not only to the literary community but the rest of the world. Not only have her books been adapted into movies, but there have also been translated into nineteen languages.  Personally, I first fell in love with V.C Andrews in the year 2009 after reading one of her books from The Orphans Series titled Runaways. Her fantastic style of writing got me stuck to her forever. What is most fascinating to me about V.C Andrews is her ability to tell sad stories in a way that the reader is able to connect with the characters.  Dear V.C Andrews, you inspire me to stick to my unique style always so I say thank you for being you. A genius!  You are my Author Crush this month of June.

Define Genius - An Ode To The Arts

What does Genius mean to you? If you Google the term Genius here is what you will find "exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability" Growing up in a typical Nigerian environment, those in the arts were not worthy of being called geniuses. And I am convinced that a lot of people still believe that if you are no scientist then one should stick to smaller terms when describing themselves.  When people speak about geniuses to aspire to they never call the names of my favourite musicians. Of course not! They are no genius they just make nice music, nothing special so they are tossed aside. The name of hair stylists, fashionistas never made the list. Of course not! they just made us pretty. I have grown up and I am redefining what genius means to me. When I say the word genius, the photo of Albert Einstein with his dishevelled grey hair no longer comes to mind. The images that pop in my head after Kanye, of course, are great writers and poets t

Sunday With The Edafes

It was a beautiful, Sunday morning, the sun was shining bright, there were no clouds in the sky, sounds of joy filled the air coupled with people in their Sunday best.  In the home of The Edafe's, the man of the house Pastor Samuel was deep in thoughts. Pastor Samuel was all dressed up in an immaculate white shirt and trouser pondering on what testimony to tell his church members. He usually set the ball rolling by telling a miracle he encountered during the previous week. Last week he told them about his account being credit by the Holy Ghost he called it “miracle alert”. Pastor Edafe also had no plans of telling his congregation that it was all a mix-up and he had, in fact, returned the money he received back to its rightful owner. He was not going to kill the hopes of his enthusiastic congregation who already called on the God of miracle alerts to credit their accounts. By telling them that the bank cashier had made a mistake. As he racked his brain for answers his

Issa Rae Frowned At Humility And Redefined The Word "Entrepreneur" During Her Acceptance Speech As The Winner Of The Award For Emerging Entrepreneur At Women In Film Awards 2019

Photo Credit Via Instagram (@issarae) Women In Film Awards 2019 brought about a full display of powerful and talented Women in the film business. An example of such a woman is the very talented writer, producer, director-actress Issa Rae who emerged as the winner of Women In Film- Emerging Entrepreneur Award. Besides the glamorous fashion statements, acceptance speeches are what we look out for during award shows. We have still not gotten over Issa speaking her truth when she said without batting an eyelid during the 2017 Emmy Awards red carpet that she was, " rooting for everyone black". Yet again,  Issa did not come to smile and be modest about her achievement during Women In Film Awards. She was real and cocky and we loved every bit of it. I personally would not stop smiling and screaming " Yass!!!" to my phone screen as I watched her acceptance speech on Instagram.  Issa started her speech by pointing out that Women are raised to remain humble, whic

5 Reasons Why I Am Glad Game Of Thrones Series Is Over

Game of Thrones came to a halt on May 19th 2019 and it has been quite tortuous since then.  My brother recommended the Game of Thrones series to me. Prior to his recommendation, I was getting sick and tired of people speaking in a high tone with a face filled with disbelief "Are you serious? You do not know what you are missing". So, I binge-watched the game of thrones series up until season seven and joined others in wait for the final season. During my wait for the final season of the series, I also got on my high horse and looked down on those who had never seen a single episode of the series because I had fallen deeply in love with the series. Well, I am glad it is over because; GOT Trapped In Time  –  I might be going about my days business but in actual fact, I was in a different time. I saw cars and motorcycles as horses with carts. I saw electricity as a nuisance and wanted to light a candle instead. My phone to me was a raven. And I had a dragon I c
