Sunday With The Edafes

It was a beautiful, Sunday morning, the sun was shining bright, there were no clouds in the sky, sounds of joy filled the air coupled with people in their Sunday best.

In the home of The Edafe's, the man of the house Pastor Samuel was deep in thoughts. Pastor Samuel was all dressed up in an immaculate white shirt and trouser pondering on what testimony to tell his church members. He usually set the ball rolling by telling a miracle he encountered during the previous week. Last week he told them about his account being credit by the Holy Ghost he called it “miracle alert”.

Pastor Edafe also had no plans of telling his congregation that it was all a mix-up and he had, in fact, returned the money he received back to its rightful owner. He was not going to kill the hopes of his enthusiastic congregation who already called on the God of miracle alerts to credit their accounts. By telling them that the bank cashier had made a mistake. As he racked his brain for answers his dog Will barked. He sat up with glee. He finally had an idea.

He filled his wife in on his plan to tell his members that their good dog Will’s food was poisoned by jealous neighbours but the good lord made Will to experience a loss of appetite and so refused to eat. With Will's head out of the window, the Edafe's drove to church.

When the time came for Thanksgiving and testimony. Pastor Samuel and his wife called on all present in the church to thank the lord with screaming and dancing for saving the life of will. Pastor Samuel narrated his story of how Will slipped from the hands of death. While the congregation listened in awe. And then they all prayed that the holy ghost fire would burn whoever wanted to hurt poor Will.
Every question in mind about how sure the Edafe's were that their neighbours had really poisoned will's food or how the Edafe's realized that the food was indeed poisoned was locked up in the minds of the congregation never to be spoken.
At the close of the service, the Pastor and his wife led Will back into the vehicle and returned home.

On the arrival of the couple. They found out that their house had been burglarized. Every material possession they owned down to the steaming hot pot of stew Mrs Edafe prepared that morning had been stolen.

The Forever Enthusiast; My first blog post 2019

Woke up this morning to my mom singing Dj Khaled's "Wild thoughts" in the bathroom. Not only was it hilarious, it somehow became my motivation to write my first blog post. For a long time, I pushed the idea of having my own blog because of a whole lot of irrelevant excuses. Today, I choose to emulate my "wild thoughts" bathroom singing mother for the rest of 2019. Today I choose to be an enthusiast! My mother is a far cry away from being a good singer but, she sings anyway not minding what anyone might say. A lady willing to learn new things like the latest dance moves. She also never fails to speak the truth. She is one who is never afraid to ask questions and understands that for a problem there is definitely a solution. My mom has the spirit of a hustler which makes her "the forever enthusiast. With this, I say welcome to my blog! And do stick around.

Curiosity

Here is a thought! Why do Nigerians love answers especially when bad things happen?  In the olden days, prior to the colonial masters and even after the colonial masters came to Africa, our forefathers practised divination, poured a libation to the ancestors and tried to find out why certain predicaments befell the people.  They got answers quite alright. With the witches taking the bulk of the blame or it was the god’s way of helping them find their way back and rethink their decisions.  When the people left the way of their fathers after much persuasion from the foreigners. How did the foreigners do this? By demonising the way the people worshipped.   So the people accepted the new religion but it did not stop their curiosity. It only doubled the need for answers. Churches sprang up in all corners.  The advertisement employed by these churches pointed to solutions in a bid to attract the people. So you read Marine ...

Why The Thought Of Grooming My Natural Hair Scares Me

These past months I have been in a dilemma on what to do with my hair. I can't put an age to the first time I relaxed my hair but I have been doing it ever since then. When the wave of embracing the natural state of your hair came, I paid no mind to it. I just felt let's continue doing what we were doing before no need to change.   Recently, my sister resolved to go natural.  I had mixed reactions hearing this. I too had not relaxed my hair in months but I was planning to. But the thought of going natural was both appealing and scary. I watched a bunch of videos and decided to join the texlaxed hair group. But an inkling pointed out that I was not being honest with myself. I like the thought of going natural but! I have this irrational fear that the hair would turn out ugly or I will look unkempt wearing my hair in its natural state.  This irrational fear spans from years of observing and being told that the best hair care is having your hair permed and people...
