Curiosity

Here is a thought! Why do Nigerians love answers especially when bad things happen?

In the olden days, prior to the colonial masters and even after the colonial masters came to Africa, our forefathers practised divination, poured a libation to the ancestors and tried to find out why certain predicaments befell the people.

They got answers quite alright. With the witches taking the bulk of the blame or it was the god’s way of helping them find their way back and rethink their decisions.

When the people left the way of their fathers after much persuasion from the foreigners. How did the foreigners do this? By demonising the way the people worshipped.

So the people accepted the new religion but it did not stop their curiosity. It only doubled the need for answers. Churches sprang up in all corners.

The advertisement employed by these churches pointed to solutions in a bid to attract the people. So you read Marine spirit vomit my money as the theme of a crusade that would be flooded by mostly the poor who are just somehow trying to make sense out of poverty.

It has got to be the fault of the mermaid their forefathers worshipped in the past and the “man of God “ is promising to break the chain shows how desperate the people really want answers.

Someone had to tell them why their businesses are failing, why their children are not making any progress, why their daughters are unmarried and above all why would someone just die?

An average Nigerian has a goal to cheat death. They do not know-how, although death has beaten them in the game a lot of times still every day, every Nigerian expects to see the end of the day and the following day. They somehow just know that they will make it to the next day.

When death wins, they try to make sense out of the situation. How did he die? he was doing just fine yesterday.

I figured that Nigerians are not really scared of death. It just hurts them when death wins. And they ask questions not because the answers would solve anything but it guarantees a good night sleep. It helps to be sure that life would continue and what happened was not meant to happen. It was as a result of something abnormal and not the poor choices people made. This is because death truncates hope and hope is that thing that Nigerians love the most.

And curiosity never hurt anyone. We hope.

The Forever Enthusiast; My first blog post 2019

Woke up this morning to my mom singing Dj Khaled's "Wild thoughts" in the bathroom. Not only was it hilarious, it somehow became my motivation to write my first blog post. For a long time, I pushed the idea of having my own blog because of a whole lot of irrelevant excuses. Today, I choose to emulate my "wild thoughts" bathroom singing mother for the rest of 2019. Today I choose to be an enthusiast! My mother is a far cry away from being a good singer but, she sings anyway not minding what anyone might say. A lady willing to learn new things like the latest dance moves. She also never fails to speak the truth. She is one who is never afraid to ask questions and understands that for a problem there is definitely a solution. My mom has the spirit of a hustler which makes her "the forever enthusiast. With this, I say welcome to my blog! And do stick around.

Lunch Story

Yemi sat in the corner at Mrs Oritse's restaurant eating her lunch half-heartedly while thoughts of work that awaited her return back at the office rented her mind. It was his laughter that drew her attention as he shook hands with a friend  cheerfully.  Mr Perfect took a sit at a table next to Yemi's. She wanted to cry out "Why so perfect?".   He moved easily, dropping freckles of how perfect he was. When he smiled, Yemi became blindYemi  allowed to see just him but, he did not see her. Not even a glance in her direction he just mindlessly scratched the stubble on his chin while he went through his phone. His nose fitted his face perfectly, his well-sculpted face on his clear light skin looked relaxed like he did not have a care in the world.  Yemi wondered if he was alone and toyed with the idea of joining him at his table and she nervously drummed her hands on the table and wiped sweat lightly from her forehead. "I should go over cooly and join hi...
