There Is A Way To Combat Writer's Block

It is no news that every writer is bound to experience writer's block. Writer's block is a burden in every writer's journey.

For those unfamiliar with writer's block, here is what it means;
Writers Block is simply said to be a writers inability to write. You will know you are suffering from writers blocks when there are days you have difficulty coming up with something creative to write, days you just think of how difficult it is to write, edit, proofread instead of actually writing and many other symptoms depending on the individual.

Writer's block is one of the most hurtful feeling a writer experience. Followed by sending an email and getting no reply. Not even a reply of rejection.

The worst thing about writer's block is that there is no time limit to it. If it occurs once in a writers life then that's lucky. But writer's block could keep reoccurring and every writer has to just combat it or you could be saying goodbye to what you love thereby inviting depression.

Here is how I combat writer's block and I hope it helps you too;

Embrace It!
Writer's block is real I might as well just embrace it. For me realising and accepting that I am experiencing writer's block is a first step to becoming better.
It is a known fact that realising your problem is the beginning of the solution.

Help yourself
The beauty of the writer's block is that you have the answer. The answer is for you to attempt to write or actually write. Even when the story is not coming together write it down.  Even when you just stare at the blank page that's okay too.

Find Your Creative Side
Dig deep and search for what made you love writing in the first place. On days like this, I read my past stories. Even the ones that have been rejected over time. I try to remember how zealous I was writing. How the words keep bursting out faster than the movement of my hands.

Inspiration(s)
Please do not sit around waiting for inspiration. But in my case, I like to travel, have a quiet time with me and just my thoughts, watch television, listen to music, burst all my silly dance moves and above all I talk to my mother. Like I said in my first blogpost my mother is my biggest inspiration. You can read more about how much my mother inspires me by clicking the link Here

Read
This cannot be overemphasised. Writers continue to learn so be open to it. Read enough books. You would be amazed at how far this will take you. As you read you learn more about writing. The ability to love someone else's writing is a journey to your own success as a writer.

Eat And Sleep
A healthy writer equals a free flow of creative juice. So please writers try to be healthy. That story will not tell itself when you wind up sick from overlabouring yourself.

I do hope these few tips above would really help you. I am looking forward to reading your feedback and contributions.

The Forever Enthusiast; My first blog post 2019

Woke up this morning to my mom singing Dj Khaled's "Wild thoughts" in the bathroom. Not only was it hilarious, it somehow became my motivation to write my first blog post. For a long time, I pushed the idea of having my own blog because of a whole lot of irrelevant excuses. Today, I choose to emulate my "wild thoughts" bathroom singing mother for the rest of 2019. Today I choose to be an enthusiast! My mother is a far cry away from being a good singer but, she sings anyway not minding what anyone might say. A lady willing to learn new things like the latest dance moves. She also never fails to speak the truth. She is one who is never afraid to ask questions and understands that for a problem there is definitely a solution. My mom has the spirit of a hustler which makes her "the forever enthusiast. With this, I say welcome to my blog! And do stick around.

Curiosity

 Here is a thought! Why do Nigerians love answers especially when bad things happen?  In the olden days, prior to the colonial masters and even after the colonial masters came to Africa, our forefathers practised divination, poured a libation to the ancestors and tried to find out why certain predicaments befell the people.  They got answers quite alright. With the witches taking the bulk of the blame or it was the god’s way of helping them find their way back and rethink their decisions.  When the people left the way of their fathers after much persuasion from the foreigners. How did the foreigners do this? By demonising the way the people worshipped.   So the people accepted the new religion but it did not stop their curiosity. It only doubled the need for answers. Churches sprang up in all corners.  The advertisement employed by these churches pointed to solutions in a bid to attract the people. So you read Marine ...

Lunch Story

Yemi sat in the corner at Mrs Oritse's restaurant eating her lunch half-heartedly while thoughts of work that awaited her return back at the office rented her mind. It was his laughter that drew her attention as he shook hands with a friend  cheerfully.  Mr Perfect took a sit at a table next to Yemi's. She wanted to cry out "Why so perfect?".   He moved easily, dropping freckles of how perfect he was. When he smiled, Yemi became blindYemi  allowed to see just him but, he did not see her. Not even a glance in her direction he just mindlessly scratched the stubble on his chin while he went through his phone. His nose fitted his face perfectly, his well-sculpted face on his clear light skin looked relaxed like he did not have a care in the world.  Yemi wondered if he was alone and toyed with the idea of joining him at his table and she nervously drummed her hands on the table and wiped sweat lightly from her forehead. "I should go over cooly and join hi...
